Challenge

The Village of Tinley Park is unique in that it is located in both Cook County and Will County, Illinois. The current population is nearly 57,000 and the village encompasses approximately 16 square miles. Combatting eye sores is a top priority for the village’s facilities team as poor aesthetics are viewed as a negative reflection of the community.

The parking lot lights in Tinley Park’s police station were still functioning, however they were outdated and discolored due to weathering which had left peeling paint. This gave the impression that the station was not up to par with basic standards.

Terry Lusby, Jr., the Facilities and Fleet Superintendent for the Village of Tinley Park, commented on the significance of the project: “If people perceive this isn’t a safe or attractive environment, regardless of what the actual environment is, how they feel is how they feel.”

Solution

Once critical funding for renovating the parking lot came through, Tinley Park wanted to get the project underway as soon as possible.

Faced with the pressing deadline the village opted to access Gordian’s ezIQC® solution. ezIQC is an ideal procurement process for renovation and alteration work, responding quickly to emergencies, addressing a backlog of deferred repairs and straightforward new construction based on locally priced construction tasks and competitively awarded contracts.

The Village of Tinley Park partnered with awarded contractor F.H. Paschen, and the joint scope meeting took place just three days after the project was identified. The light poles were temporarily taken down, sandblasted and power coated. From there, new LED streetlights were installed to make for a more aesthetically pleasing atmosphere. The job took approximately three weeks to complete.

I feel like it’s pretty much the best thing since sliced bread. You get a fair price and the best quality for every taxpayer dollar that we’re spending in the Village of Tinley park.”
