700,000 members of military families across 100 military bases live in privatized military housing. And over 55% of military families have had a negative or very negative experience with these private units, according to a 2019 survey.

The Department of Defense (DOD) is investing billions of dollars to improve military housing conditions and provide a better experience for the families who live in them. In theory, that should bring an influx of new contract opportunities to government contractor groups. But those opportunities won’t be without their challenges.
