CERL and Gordian Partner to Bring RSMeans data to BUILDER

Greenville, S.C. – Gordian, the leading provider of facility and construction cost data, software and expertise, announced today that its RSMeans data can now be integrated into the BUILDER™ Sustainment Management System (SMS) catalog. This capability was developed in partnership with the Construction Engineering Research Laboratory (CERL) under a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA).

BUILDER™ SMS supports the collection and synthesis of information about facility assets to understand their condition and performance and plan for repair, restoration and renovation activities. Department of Defense components are mandated to use the BUILDER™ SMS software application for facility condition assessment, planning and budgeting activities. Multiple civilian federal government agencies, as well as municipal governments and private industries, are also adopting the technology.

“The IDA Science and Technology Institute, in a recent report, identified the need for accurate and up-to-date reference costs as a primary ingredient for successful implementation of BUILDER™ SMS,” said William Pollak, President of Gordian. “RSMeans data is already the cost basis for much of the pre-construction work among BUILDER™ SMS users, so integrating our data with this emerging asset management tool is a huge advantage.”

The CRADA enabled Gordian to partner with CERL, part of the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center, to contribute their own research and development efforts consistent with the Federal agency’s mission. Gordian Cost Engineers invested more than six months and thousands of labor hours into mapping RSMeans data to the BUILDER™ SMS task catalog. With this powerful technology, users benefit from integrated and aligned construction cost data in their asset management and reporting efforts.
